Description: Eucalyptus is an evergreen tree, reaching 98-180 feet tall, and are one of the most widely cultivated trees that are native to Australia. The young leaves are usually 6-15 centimeters and are covered with a waxy, blue-green substance usually referred to as “blue gum.”

History: The first recording of Eucalyptus being studied was made in 1770 by Joseph Banks and Daniel Solander upon their arrival in Botany Bay. Several years later, Eucalyptus was collected again and taken to British Museum in London where it was named Eucalyptus obliqua by French botanist, L’Héritier. It was then published in 1788-89, which corresponded with the first settlement of Europeans in Australia. From then on until the 19th century, several other species of Eucalyptus were collected, named, and recorded.
